KYC and account-block SMS

An SMS warns your KYC has expired and your account will be blocked, with a link or an app to install.

Warning signs
  • Urgent deadline in an SMS
  • Asked to install AnyDesk, TeamViewer or a screen-sharing app

How the fraud works

The message carries a same-day deadline and a shortened link, and is often timed for when you are busy. The page it opens is a copy of your bank's login screen, sometimes down to the exact fonts and colours.

A second version of this fraud asks you to install a screen-sharing app so 'support' can complete the update. That app shows the fraudster your OTP as it arrives.

The usual sequence

SMS, WhatsApp message or call warns of account suspension today.
A link opens a page that looks exactly like your bank.
Customer ID, password and OTP are entered on that page.
Alternatively, a remote-access app is installed for 'help'.
Debits follow within minutes.

How to report a fraud
Who is targeted most

Anyone with a bank account, especially shopkeepers and people transacting during busy hours.

How to protect yourself

  • Banks do not suspend accounts over SMS deadlines or complete KYC through links.
  • Never install AnyDesk, TeamViewer, QuickSupport or similar at anyone's request.
  • Call only the number printed on your passbook, card, or the bank's own app.
